As the brilliant Nicki Minaj once said, “Let’s go to the beach, each. Let’s go get away.” Why are we singing this catchy pop song? Because vacation season is finally here! Just make sure to check these things off your apartment vacation to-do list before you head off to get some R & R. You’ll rest easier knowing your apartment is safe and sound.

Ask A Friend Or Neighbor To Stop By
Before you head out, tell a friend or neighbor that you’re leaving. Then, ask them to check on things for you. They can feed your pet, water your plants, and make sure everything is okay with your apartment. Having them come once a day will also make it seem like someone’s still at home. This will deter robbers from targeting your apartment.
Take Care of Taking Care of Your Pet
If you have a more high-maintenance pet, it might be wiser to take them to the kennel or leave them at a friend’s or family member’s home. Make sure to provide whoever is looking after your fur baby with all the instructions they’ll need to do a good job.
Put Your Mail on Hold
Unless you want your mailbox filled to the brim and packages stacked at your door, put your mail on hold. All you have to do is fill out an online form and the local post office will keep your mail. Once you come back, head to the post office and pick everything up.
Adjust the Thermostat
Summer time can get hot. As in over one hundred degrees of hot, depending upon where you live. However, keeping your cool air at top blast while you’re gone can cost you — a lot. When it comes to your thermostat, just remember: set it, and you won’t regret it! Before you leave, set the thermostat higher than you normally would. This will save you money while you’re gone.
Clean House (No, Really)
We’ve saved your least favorite for last. But cleaning is just as important as everything else on this list. If you don’t clean your dishes, take out the garbage, and throw away perishable food, you’re in trouble. Leaving these things behind can invite some un-welcome guests like bugs, rodents, and bacteria. Plus, coming home to a clean apartment will be the cherry on top of a great vacation.
