Louisville’s location on the border of the North and the South gives the city a unique feel and certainly a unique and delicious food scene. While KFC might be a global household name, Kentucky residents probably eat less KFC than anywhere else. Instead, we go to restaurants like The Eagle on Bardstown Road. Their traditional Southern comfort food fried chicken coupled with sides like cornbread or mac and cheese make for a perfect meal.
Fried chicken isn’t Louisville’s only Southern staple dish. Here in the city, we love a good barbecue. Feast BBQ in NuLu not only serves some of the best smoked meats around, but they’re also in a great location close to Downtown. Not to mention that they serve some of the most delicious cocktails in the area.
The Silver Dollar
Speaking of cocktails, The Silver Dollar is a unique eatery with a Southern California Honky Tonk atmosphere. Their menu covers anything from Chicken and Waffles to Beer Can Hen. Not to mention, the joint’s motto is “whiskey by the drink” and was named one of the top ten whiskey bars in the nation by GQ.
For a fun outdoor experience on a nice day, try Garage Bar on Market. Garage Bar prides themselves on their delicious pizzas. Plus, they use locally grown ingredients and make their own sausage and pepperoni.
The Kentucky Taco Company
The Kentucky Taco Company is the perfect communion of Southern comfort food and the traditional street taco place. They recently went viral on Facebook for their fried chicken tacos. Don’t forget their KY Hot Brown Chimichangas or the Chicken Pot Pie Empanadas.
