NuLu, short for “New Louisville,” is another term for the East Market District of downtown Louisville. Once a run-down neighborhood, Nulu’s now a flourishing, up-and-coming hub with a thriving community of local businesses. Plus, NuLu apartments have drawn many younger tenants. Here are some great things to do in NuLu.
Where to Eat
One thing that NuLu loves is farm-to-table restaurants. Harvest takes pride in its locally-sourced ingredients. Decca goes a step further, offering local art and music alongside their locally-grown menu. Or, if you’re looking for a snack, try one of the three Please & Thank You locations. With a coffee shop, bakery and music venue all rolled into one, these joints make for the perfect stop to refuel.
Where to Drink
What’s a trip to Louisville without trying some of its famous distilleries/bars? Goodwood brews their beer in used liquor barrels once home to famous Kentucky bourbon. Garage Bar is a renovated garage that gives visitors a more domestic feel. And at the Louisville Beer Store, you can buy packaged beer or have a drink in the courtyard.
Where to Shop
If you’re looking to shop in NuLu, there’s plenty to choose from. Blofish is a unique t-shirt shop that donates 10% of their profits to a different charity every month. Scout, one of the original stores in NuLu, offers a mix of accessories, gifts, home goods. Art is no stranger to NuLu, and the Revelry Boutique Gallery proves it. They sell and exhibit works from different artists ranging from homemade jewelry, home goods and paintings.
