The Birmingham neighborhood of Avondale is home to many young families and students and filled with popular Birmingham restaurants and breweries. The area continues to grow with the presence of a bustling nightlife scene, local markets and parks. This combination of the trendy and the suburban, as well as Avondale‘s proximity to downtown Birmingham, is appealing to many businesses.

Melting ice cream.Joining the area, Big Spoon Creamery will be opening a storefront in the MAKEbhm building this Spring. The local truck is often seen at community events all over the city, most notably at The Market at Pepper Place on Saturdays. With flavors such as Paris Tea, Girl Scout Samoa and Meyer Lemon Sorbet, they usually have a long line outside their window.

The owners of Big Spoon Creamery are husband and wife duo, Ryan and Geri-Martha O’Hara. The two met while working at Birmingham’s very own Bottega, and with a shared love for ice cream, community and one another, they used $500 to create one of Birmingham’s most popular creameries. Along with their team, the O’Haras use fresh local ingredients to celebrate classic flavors.

Considering their unique seasonal flavors, artisan approach and growing business, when Big Spoon Creamery moves to Avondale they will surely be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. While you wait for the brick and mortar store front to open up, check out the schedule online to catch the truck at one of their locations, or purchase some of their delicious products online for pickup.
