Sidewalk Film Festival is one of Birmingham’s biggest festivals. It’s also coming up fast. This festival is the perfect place to discover new independent films made by filmmakers from around the world. Here are some details about this exciting event.

In 1999, the AMIA (Alabama Moving Image Association) started the Sidewalk Film Festival. Since then, MovieMaker Magazine ranked it in the top 25 coolest film festivals in the world. The Festival hosts filmmakers from all across the globe. They screen their works in the historic Alabama Theatre and the Lyric Theatre. It’s a great opportunity to see something a bit different from popular movies and enjoy Birmingham’s historic Theatre District.

The When:
Though an exact schedule is still to be announced, Sidewalk Film Festival starts on Tuesday, August 22nd and ends on Sunday, August 27th. The main events happen between Thursday and Sunday. There will be an Opening Screening/Party on Friday night. Saturday and Sunday will both feature a full day of films and other events.

The Cost:
There are 4 basic passes, each with their own perks and own price tag. This makes it possible for pretty much anyone to enjoy the film festival in their own way. Below, you’ll find details for each kind of pass. The price for each pass increases the closer it gets to the event. The prices listed below are from July. The sooner you get your tickets, the cheaper they will be.

  • The street is full of people walking into the Alabama Theater for Sidewalk fest. The VIP Pass – This is the most expensive pass. Depending on when you buy it, it can range from $235-$285. However, the VIP pass will get you into any event at anytime during the week. This includes an exclusive VIP Lounge, early access to seating and discounts on merchandise.
  • The Weekend Pass – Next, the Weekend Pass gives you access to the opening night film and after-party as well as all the events on Saturday and Sunday. The price for this pass ranges from $75-$95, depending on time of purchase.
  • The Opening Night Film + Party – This pass only covers the Friday night opening film and the after-party held on 3rd Avenue North. The price for this ticket ranges from $30 to $40.
  • The Day Pass – If you can only make it for one day of the festival, you can purchase a day pass from $30-$40. This pass will get you into all the screenings on that day, including Sidewalk and SHOUT Films.
