Parkside is the best place to start exploring Birmingham. With icons like the color tunnel and the home field of the Birmingham Barons, Parkside is a great place to spend your day off. (There are also a few breweries to boot.)

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Birmingham, you’ll never go wrong at Railroad Park. A beautiful 19-acre park in the heart of Birmingham, Railroad Park boasted the title of Best New Park in the US for 2012, and with good reason. It’s the perfect place to get your pals together for a picnic (for free) or tone those muscles at one of the many (also free) outdoor exercise classes offered on site. Railroad Park also hosts many charity events and outdoor concerts, so you’ll never be without a new activity to try. (Visit any day from 7am-11pm.)
