If Memphis is known around the country for one thing, it’s their barbecue. There are a lot of restaurant options and choosing one can be tough for tourists and residents. To make things easier, here’s a list of 5 great BBQ restaurants in Memphis that will satisfy anyone’s cravings.
The Bar-B-Q Shop
The Bar-B-Q Shop is a Memphis favorite that proudly serves the #1 ribs in America (as voted by the Food Network’s “Top Five Restaurants”). But their magic really lies in their award-winning gourmet sauces that come in hot or mild. Whether you come for the ribs, sauce, or atmosphere, you won’t be disappointed.
Central BBQ is a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Their great food, topped with homemade potato chips and a patio open during appropriate weather make for a great Memphis dining experience. There are three locations to choose from in the city so you’ll never have to worry about not finding a seat!
Charlie Vergos’ Rendevouz
The “Vouz” — as locals call it — is a great part of Memphis (and barbecue) history. Vergos, the original owner and cook, basically started the tradition of selling ribs in restaurants. Though he may not have a national holiday in his honor like he deserves, he does have a great restaurant that immortalizes his name.
You may have seen this classic barbecue chain in other states, but the Memphis location is the original. They’ve been voted the #1 BBQ joint in Memphis over 20 times since their opening in 1984, making them an essential BBQ stop.
Cozy Corner’s been a Memphis staple since 1977, even surviving a fire in 2015. While their barbecue is great, their Cornish game hen is the real standout. While their atmosphere may quite not be on par with the other options, their food more than makes up for it.
